  1. 1.  John Welbank was born about 1657 in North Cowton; died in 1713 in Danby Wiske, Yorks.

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Note: Speculative that John Welbank of Felgill Farm was the third son of George Welbank. However Felgill Farm is quite close to North Cowton and other John Welbanks born in North Cowton around this time are recording staying in North Cowton and dying there. Could he go from inheriting £20 from his father, to owning an estate worth £130?
    • Note: 1678, St John's College Cambridge; Admissions 1678 John Welbanck, born at North Cowton, Yorkshire, son of George Welbanck, husbandman (agricolae); school, North Allerton (Mr Smelt); admitted sizar for Mr Davison, tutor and surety Mr Wilkinson, 10 Jun, set. 20 Admissions to the College of St John the Evangelist in the University of Cambridge, 1893

Matric 1678, (No other Johns of this age in North Cowton at the time, but I wonder how rigorous the research was for this volume. Could they have found George's Will in the Yorkshire Archives and matched it to the student's age?)
    • Note: 1713; His Will left property to his son John. Inventory worth £130, including some pewter, 4 horses, 19 ewes and a tup and 15 lambs, 18 cattle of various types.
    • Residence: 1713, Fellgill Farm, Danby-Wiske

Generation: 2

  1. 2.  Isabel Welbank Descendancy chart to this point (1.John1)

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Note: As Isabel marries in Danby Wiske in 1700, she can't be the daughter of William and Margaret, who had a daughter named Isabel in 1782 and another in 1793 after their first Isabel died. So she seems likely to be the daughter of John and Jane, and probably older than their son John who marries in 1709.

Isabel married Michael Metcalf on 29 Oct 1700 in Danby Wiske, Yorks. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 3.  ?? Welbank Descendancy chart to this point (1.John1)

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Note: 1717; Listed in Forfeited Estates Commission: Abstracts of estates of Popish recusants. It seems to be the owner of Felgill Farm and not him, who is a recusant.
    • Residence: 1719; "A farm called Felgill Farm in the occupation of John Welbank and Sam Stockdale, in Danby-upon-the-Wiske". Felgill Farm still exists today and is quite close to North Cowton.
