- Occupation: 1861, 50 High Street, Chorlton-on-Medlock, Manchester; Census shows Jane living here with her sisters Emma and Rosabelle, all listed as teachers, together with 4 girls aged 10-16, all listed as scholars, with a cook and a housemaid.
She seems to be running a small boarding school.
- Residence: 1872, Higher Casterton near Kirby Lonsdale, Westmoreland; She was then living with Emma Mitchell and Rosabelle Mitchell. They are all cousins of Mary Anne Mitchell, named in her probate record.
In the 1871 census they are all desribed as retired school mistresses.
