    • Residence: the late Mr Brown of Threadneedle Street, London, ~1760 The alms-houses, in their present improved state, derive their origin from the princely munificence of the late George Brown, Esq., of Stockton, and of Threadneedle Street, London. For this benevolent purpose he bequeathed £3,000, and likewise £1,000 to the treasurer of the school for the blue-coat boys and girls at Stockton, for the general purpose of the charity.
