Note |
Several of the Welbanks were followers of the Rev William Turner. Possibly Thomas Mitchell was the one who brought them in?

Mrs Welbank and Miss Mitchell of Great Yarmouth
T Mitchell of Northallerton
W A Mitchell
J Mitchell of Sheffield
Miss Mitchell of Norwich, together with several Martineaus, presumably including Harriet and her mother.
W A Mitchell and J Mitchell may be relatives of Thomas, suggesting his family are followers of Rev Turner.
Thomas married Mary Welbank and all their children were baptised at Hanover Street Chapel. They lived in Newcastle where he had a wholesale linen drapery business. He was buried in the Unitarian chapel, Manchester, where William Turner was also buried.
Their son Edward was a surgeon in Newcastle but was living in Manchester at Lloyd Street Greenheys when he died. At least two of his sisters lived with him. He was buried in the same graveyard.
Mary's sister Jane lived in Newcastle and borrowed books from the Hanover Street chapel library. She was buried in the same graveyard.
Her brother William and his wife Mary Anne subscribed to a book of sermons from Turner and attended his sermons. William lived in Newcastle at the end of his life. Mary Anne lived with Mary's daughters in Manchester at the end of her life, at Lloyd Street Greenheys (newspaper death announcement).
ELizabeth Gaskell wrote in a letter of 1856 that her friend Miss Mitchell was living with just a servant, and the Rev Turner and a companion were lodging with her. Wikipedia says that Rev Turner was lodging at Lloyd St before his death. A death announcement in the Leicester Mercury confirms his residence was Lloyd Street,
Janetta Bishop Mitchell was also buried at the Unitarian Chapel, later to become the Welsh Baptist Chapel and then to fall into disuse. In 2015 it was developed as student housing and the bodies were reburied at Prestwold Burial Ground.

Prestwold burial ground is a natural burial ground near Loughborough. Apparently the developers of the chapel have kept the gravestones and plan to use them in the landscaping.
